Bill Killam
President and Senior Human Factors Engineer
Mr. Killam is president and founder of User-Centered Design, Inc. He has been providing Human Factors Engineering, user-centered design, and usability services for over 25 years. He has worked for, or consulted to, companies such as E-Systems, GTE, TRW, Logicon, IBM, and The Mitre Corporation. Mr. Killam is an adjunct professor at both the University of Maryland and George Mason University and has taught a workshop on usability at the University of Maryland's HCIL Open House Symposium for the past 7 years.
Mr. Killam is a Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP) and a certified User Experience Professional. He holds a master's degree in psychology from Marymount University and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech. He has been providing Human Factors Engineering, user-centered design, user experience design, and usability services for over 25 years. Mr. Killam is also a member of the American Psychological Association, Association for Computing Machinery, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and Usability Professionals Association.
Dean Wanderer
Vice President and General Counsel
Dean Wanderer has served as Vice President and General Counsel of User-Centered Design since its inception. Dean, a former Navy JAG Corps officer, was licensed as an attorney in Virginia in 1996. He is responsible for all legal policies and procedures of the company including employment agreements, sub-contracts, and contract negotiations.
Marguerite Autry
Senior Human Factors Engineer
Dr. Autry has over 11 years of experience in Human Factors Engineering, user experience design, user-centered research, and design. She has conducted usability evaluations and non-user-based evaluations for a number of government, commercial, and not-for-profit clients.
Dr. Autry holds doctorate and master's degrees in experimental psychology from Catholic University and a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association, Association for Computing Machinery, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, Society for Technical Communication, and Usability Professionals Association.
Audrey Lipps
Senior Human Factors Engineer
Ms. Lipps has over 12 years of experience in Human Factors Engineering, user research, user experience design, usability testing and evaluation, and instructional design. Through customer-based research and usability testing, she has explored users' experiences, perceptions, and goals for both commercial and government clients. In her design work, she utilizes principles of cognitive science to integrate text, images, and audio in addressing the learning and processing needs of multiple audiences.
Ms. Lipps holds a master's degree in human factors and applied cognition from George Mason University and a bachelor's degree in computer science and psychology from Duke University. She is a member of the Usability Professionals Association.
Danielle Smith
Human Factors Engineer (Intern)
Danielle Smith is a Masters student in Human Factors Engineering and Ergonomics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia. Ms. Smith previously worked as a social media researcher for Noobis Inc, where she was involved in the design of several facebook applications.
Currently, she is the secretary for the Virginia Tech chapter of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and serves as a student panelist of the Graduate Honor System.
Erin Nomiyama
Interaction Architect
Ms. Nomiyama is experienced in human-computer interface design, information architecture, design documentation, and product testing. She previously worked as a graduate fellow for two years in the areas of user-based testing, information architecture, and interaction design via the redesign of several university websites.
Ms. Nomiyama received her master's degree in interaction design and information architecture at the University of Baltimore and holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Lewis and Clarke College. She is also a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the Usability Professionals Association.
Barbara Barry
Senior Developer
Ms. Barry has over a decade of experience in development and programming for the web and other digital media. She has worked extensively on both interface design and backend connectivity for websites encompassing a variety of databases, programming languages, and front-end technologies. Additionally she has broad experience in multimedia development and programming for mobile devices. Clients have included the federal government, private sector, and nonprofit organizations.
Ms. Barry holds a bachelor's degree in music engineering with minor in electrical engineering from the University of Miami and is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery.
