Nextel Communications, now a part of the Sprint Nextel Corporation, was previously one of the major telecommunications firms providing cell phone technology in the US and abroad. Among their many innovations was the nationwide “push to talk” mobile communications system. Nextel was one of the US first providers to offer national digital cellular coverage and had over twenty million subscribers in the United States.

Over a 7 year period prior to their merger with Sprint, UCD performed a wide variety of services to Nextel including user profile development, design consultation, contextual inquiry, expert review, and user-based testing.
